🎾As with any other sport, Tennis has its complexities, but I will do my best to inform you on how it works. First, there are two tours: ATP and WTA. The ATP is the men's tour and WTA is the women's. Each tour consists of tournaments hosted all around the world. Each tournament is worth a certain amount of ranking points, and the further a player advances in the tournament, the more points will be awarded. The more points you have, the higher your ranking is. Both tours consist of 4 majors. These are 4 tournaments which form the cornerstone of Tennis: The Australian Open, The French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. All majors award millions of dollars and 2,000 points to the winner. Second, I will explain the scoring of a tennis match. Matches are made up of 3 or 5 sets max. To win in a 3 set match the player needs to win 2 sets, and to win a 5 set match, the player needs to win 3 sets. Only the majors and Davis Cup matches are played best of 5 sets, and that is only for the men. A single set is won by winning 6 games. To win a game, a player must win at least four points. Points are counted in fifteens; if I were to win a point, the score would be 15-0. If I won another it would be 30-0, and after a point is won at 40-0, the winner gets one game.
This was such an informative post. Some of this information I was already familiar with but I learned a lot by reading your summary. I'm looking forward to learning even more as the semester progresses. Keep writing, curious minds want to know!
